As your Phoenix Image Consultant, one of the main reasons I blog is to address the questions my clients come up with! The latest one had to do with how to wear your Signature Color. It’s a great question! Am I supposed to wear a turquoise top every day? Do I start buying turquoise nail polish??
How to wear your Signature Color
Let’s start here. The main purpose of having a Signature Color is so you become known for that color. It’s a way to make you stand out and become unforgettable.
When I’m doing a speaking gig to professionals, I’ll often have the audience close their eyes and recall someone they noticed that morning. Nine times out of ten, they remembered someone wearing a specific color (usually red or yellow). Color gets you noticed!
The whole point of having a Signature Color is to get you noticed and make you unforgettable. If you are reading this, odds are you are someone who wants to stand out.
Even if you are an introvert or “not a color person,” there’s something you want to accomplish, gifts you want to contribute, a mark you want to make…and you know you have to be unique to do that. Your Signature Color is what helps you be unique. If your color is purple, you don’t have to have a closet full of 30 purple dresses! Your color should show up frequently in your wardrobe, though, and should be a part of your overall image. With that in mind, here are some ideas.
1. Tops and dresses in your color
This one is the easiest and most obvious, plus it keeps your color near your face for maximum impact.
For men, it would be shirts and ties.
2. Accessories in your color
Of course there’s jewelry but there are also belts, shoes, scarves and hats! If you’re the type who loves to wear black, wear earrings or shoes in your color and you’ll still stand out.
Tab’s Tip: find a necklace that includes your Signature Color and your accent colors. Take it shopping with you and you’ll be sure to stay within your palette.
3, Bags in your color
Purses and tote bags are an investment. They should either 1. match your hair or 2. be in a fabulous color!
4. Cups, pens and notebooks
Anything you carry with you throughout the day can be in your color, from your travel coffee mug to the pen you write with. Those are the details people notice and appreciate.
5. Your branding materials
If you have a business, it should have a color or share your color. Business cards are obvious but there’s also your name tag, table cloths for vendor events, the envelopes for your mailers, the color of your freebies, etc. Again, consistency is key.
Essentially, you should always be on the lookout for items in your Signature Color.
If you follow me on Instagram, I take pictures of turquoise items everywhere I go, from pots at the nursery to the rack at Goodwill.
I wear my color almost every day, even if it’s just my earrings. Everyone knows turquoise is my Signature Color and that’s the point.
