As a personal update, our family just completed our first week of all three kids being in school!
Of course I knew this year was coming (there were many times I did the math to make sure I had it right…a senior, a freshman and a kindergartener) but it’s still pretty astounding that we are HERE now.
Our oldest son (on the left) is now a high school senior, our middle son is a high school freshman…
and Kate just started homeschool kindergarten with me!
Back in my pre-kid days I taught fourth grade for two years in Rainbow Valley, AZ. I’ve been home with the kids since the fall of 2005!
Then I home schooled our middle kid for half of seventh grade and all of eighth grade. We planned to do online school for him for high school but he decided at the last minute that he wanted to attend in person. He also decided to do freshman football!
Now the guys are in two different high schools and our senior has a half day so he drops his brother off, attends his four classes and is home around noon most days. The freshman goes to football practice after school every day and isn’t home until closer to 6:00. Kate and I are taking it easy as we find our rhythms and routines and do school from about 10:00am to 2:00pm with plenty of outside time, play time, reading, games and, of course, tea.
Both boys attended our neighborhood public elementary school from kindergarten through 6th grade and had terrific experiences. Our oldest went on to attend the advanced middle school attached to his current high school which made his transition to high school much easier. As many of you, he found his niche in choir. We’re hoping our freshman ends up loving his football family!
Fast forward to adding Kate to our family and all the turmoil over the last few years and we quickly realized we should consider home school for Kate. I’m trying to embrace this new season with hope and joy and so far, she’s an eager and happy learner! Once we get into fall weather, we’ll be spending lots of time outside in her kinder-garden. I’ve always loved teaching little kids so I’m loving planning lessons for her and seeing her little brain spark and grow.
This is a “good ol days” season of life and I intend to fully embrace it. This lil’ business of mine will remain small and simple and I truly appreciate the support of my clients, cohorts, friends and family on the journey.
