School is out and our pool is officially open so it’s time to start thinking about summer must haves here in Phoenix. If you’re like me, summer snuck up pretty fast!
Summer must haves

1. A great bag
You need a big ol’ tote bag that can hold pool and beach gear. Ideally your bag will be cute, water resistant, have plenty of pockets, and be a summery print. My main bag is blue and white stripes and always pre-loaded with hats and sunscreen. Straw or woven totes are IN and I love this monogrammed version from Marley Lilly.
2. A fun towel
I love a good, cozy beach towel! The bigger the better and you’ll probably need one to sit or lay on and one to dry off with. I love to thrift these because they are great quality for just a few bucks.
3. Summer reading
Magazines and soft-back books are ideal in case they get wet. Thrift a few then just donate them back when you’re done. Call me weird but I also like to peruse Christmas magazines to get ideas.
4. After sun care
Being in the sun in summer in Arizona is inevitable so I keep a colorless aloe vera gel in the fridge. So refreshing! I love using aloe on my legs after shaving, too.
5. A fun cover-up
Aim for a cover-up that doubles as a top or dress for everyday wear. An absorbent one is nice for by the pool! Even a flowy white blouse or linen top works well for keeping covered while your suit dries.
6. A kimono
It’s so easy-breezy to throw on over your bathing suit or wear with shorts and a tank top. Make sure it suits your Color Code but also maybe try a fun print or color combination you wouldn’t normall wear. A crochet piece is trendy, too.
7. A great cup
A fun and colorful summer cup is a must! Staying hydrated is critical during summer, especially in the desert. I like a big water cup for taking in the van and a stainless steel tumbler for by the pool.
8. A sun shade for your car
If you don’t live in Phoenix, you might not know a sun shade keeps your car much cooler when it’s parked in the sun! Mine has butterflies. They’re in the car care department of must major retailers and come in shiny silver or a cute print.
9. A great hat
Now’s the time to rock a big straw hat! They add a lot to your outfit and of course keep you out of the sun.
10. Scarves
YES, scarves are great for summer and can be worn as a cover-up, to take off the evening chill, tied to your bag or even as a belt. I love the post below, be sure to check it out.
I hope this list of summer must haves helps you have a fun, colorful and COOL summer!
