We already talking up “Showing UP: being about being in the moment” in part 1. Now we’re talking about
what it means to Start Showing UP (part 2: being seen)
As I often say…
It truly breaks my heart when I see women playing small.
What does that mean, you ask?
Playing small is all about
- apologizing for your greatness
- never accepting credit or accolades
- dismissing compliments and attention
- staying safe
- turning down opportunities
Showing UP is the opposite of playing small.
It’s about…
- owning your greatness
- celebrating your success (even if it’s “making it through another day” or “wearing red lipstick for the first time”)
- reveling in positive attention
- living “out there”
- embracing opportunities
Showing up also means…
- doing scary things
- taking risks
- embracing imperfection
- doing what you were born to do
- telling your story
- knowing what you’re about
- living out your vision
All of these things look different for each woman. Your story is unique and you should be celebrating that!
This is a quote I read almost 10 years ago and has become one of the guiding principles in my life.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
by Marianne Williamson from “A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles”
No more shrinking.
Step up. Be seen.
It’s time for you to SHINE.
