I’m a writer and as I often say, “The hardest stuff to write is your own.”
Writing about what I do, from marketing messages to “About Me” pages, can be a painful experience.
I need content for my new website and I’ve been struggling with parts of it. Thankfully, the team at Shine Avenue Creative forced me (yes, they’re very bossy) to provide content BUT I was stuck on the opt in. What am I going to use to entice people to sign up to receive my email newsletters??
I was stuck on the opt in because I wasn’t sure what I wanted the opt in to be.
I didn’t know what I wanted the opt in to be because I wasn’t entirely sure who I was talking to or what I was offering.
Trust me…I KNOW what I do. It’s just hard to articulate it sometimes.
My job is helping women get un-stuck but I’ve been stuck on this opt in for weeks.
My friend Andrea introduced me to her and I’ve been reading Regina’s stuff and following her on social media for a few weeks now.
Then I found her blog post tonight on creating a brand statement.
It’s a terrific ten-minute exercise and it gave me the clarity I needed.
If you don’t have a brand statement, I encourage you go visit her post, do the exercise and create yours. I used the index cards then re-wrote it in different configurations, just as she suggested.
NOW I have…
- a much more effective way to talk about what I do
- clarity about what I do and what makes me unique
- several 30-second commercials and “elevator pitches” ready to go
- a more clear idea for my opt in offer
- added confidence
- AND…a brand statement!
Here’s mine. It’s about thirty minutes old and subject to change without notice.
My brand statement:
