This blog post is about my current color analysis process and what to expect from a custom color analysis with me.
Please note that the customized approach is only available for my one or two-person Custom Color Analysis appointments which is $247 for 1.5 hours for one person here or for $494 for two people here at my private office in Chandler, AZ.
It’s been fascinating to see color analysis surge in popularity in recent years. Following in the footsteps of my grandmother, Evelyn, who did color analysis in the 1980s, I have now analyzed over 2,000 people from all over the world, starting in 2012. My median client age has shifted by about twenty years, and at least half of my appointments now are for people under the age of 30–often teens and mother-daughter duos. I love it! With the awareness of color analysis spreading and a slew of online and virtual options available, I’ve realized CUSTOM color analysis is my expertise. Plus, combining the various systems and working with clients to determine their unique color palette is just so much fun!
By the time many of my clients get to me, they’ve taken multiple online tests or have had a virtual color analysis or have studied every color analysis system–yet they get mixed results. Or their “type” has a palette of colors they don’t like! So they book their appointment with me, desperate for answers. As I often say, analyzing people is an art and a science. Yes, we can look at your undertones and, yes, we can assess your contrast levels. But every person’s hair/skin/eyes combination is unique to them and can even change if their eyes reflect their mood, or they’re coloring their hair. Plus, the way you feel about the colors you’re wearing isn’t something that AI or an app can figure out.
One of the main reasons I’ll never grow tired of doing color analysis is because each client is so unique and often can’t be placed into an exact box. Every now and then, I get a woman who is easily typed, like a Cool Color Code with silver hair, blue eyes and pink-toned skin. Most women, however, have a combination of hair, skin and eyes that overlaps the color codes or seasons.
In fact, most of my clients are “between codes” or have two seasons that overlap. For example, people sometimes mistake me for a Clear because I wear bright colors well and my face isn’t very dark, yet I have striking dark hair and eyes. And everyone debates about whether I’m a Deep Autumn (Deep + warm) or a Deep Winter (Deep + cool) because I wear orange (a warm color) just as well as pink (a cool color)! Interestingly, there is warmth in my skin and even some auburn tones in my hair, BUT the grays growing in are silver and sparkly which will eventually put me into the Cool category. Some of you have noticed that many of the ladies trained in the six Color Codes system drape their clients with a cape of the full range of colors. If I were draped in the Deep cape, I would look at those colors and be pretty miserable because 1. I never wear yellow and almost never wear orange 2. I cannot stand brown 3. I don’t own anything purple or plum 4. I prefer brighter shades of pink and green than those in the Deep palette. I, myself, would much prefer a custom color analysis (and so do most of my clients), which is why I’ve specialized in it!
So how does a custom analysis work? Once we narrow down your Color Code based on your hair, skin and eyes, I will help you explore my 50 wraps of varying color intensity, which we’ll use to customize your wardrobe color palette according to your unique features, lifestyle, preferences and personality.
You need a custom color analysis if you
- keep getting mixed results from online assessments
- were typed but you don’t like the colors in your palette
- have always wanted to try a bunch of colors on to determine whether you should be wearing pastel vs. muted vs. dark vs. bright
- have a few favorite colors you love to wear but want to know which shade works best by your face
- want colors you look good in AND love to wear AND that send the right message about your personality
- have colors you love and refuse to give up but want to figure out how to incorporate them into your wardrobe
- desire a limited palette of colors with both warm and cool options
- are exploring colors for your brand, business and/or online presence
I’m often asked and YES, you’re OK (and encouraged!) to come to me if you
- are dead set on the hair color you’re doing (even if it’s pink or blue, etc.)
- need hair color feedback before your hair appointment
- want to know how a faux tan will affect your analysis
- love makeup and want to be analyzed based on your everyday makeup look
You DON’T need a custom color analysis if you
- will lose sleep without knowing which exact sub-season you are (I can narrow it down pretty well but it’s not my expertise, especially the system with 22)
- are looking for a purely professional opinion from someone who doesn’t want your feedback
- do not care how you feel in your clothes–you just want to know your perfect colors
- are very easy to type into a specific season or Color Code
