the best neutral colors for your Color Code.
Let me be clear. I refer to purple, emerald green, true red and turquoise as “neutral” colors because they are neither warm nor cool.
What I’m talking about here are colors in a neutral palette meaning beige, gray, white and brown.
The fact is, every wardrobe needs some neutral pieces. Even if you’re like me and LOVE color, you still need a black tee or a pair of white linen pants that will allow you to mix and match your outfits.
As a disclaimer, the basics in your wardrobe like dress pants, blazers and jackets don’t HAVE to be in a neutral color!
When I give you your Signature Color, I make sure you have two to four neutral colors. Sticking to those is the key to a streamlined and flexible wardrobe.

Ideally, you’d choose one or two neutral shades to stick to (black and white, for example) for a mix-and-match wardrobe.
This is an example of a neutral wardrobe. You’ll see a lot of brown, white and gray with some denim blue and little pink mixed in.

Side note…yes, I consider animal prints neutrals!
LIGHT
Your best neutrals are charcoal, navy and light camel.
White and ivory work well.
Beware of black as it can be overpowering.
A light camel or gray animal print is also nice.
DEEP
Your best neutrals are black or dark brown.
White and ivory work well.
Black is a YES.
Animal prints are terrific, especially a leopard with deep browns and black.
SOFT
Your best neutrals are charcoal and medium brown.
Soft ivory is preferred over white.
Black near your face is a BIG no.
Medium-tone animal prints are lovely as well.
CLEAR
Your best neutrals are black, navy and deep charcoal gray.
White is preferred over ivory.
Black is a YES.
High contrast animal prints, stripes or polka dots are also terrific.
WARM
Your best neutrals are any shade of brown.
Ivory is preferred over white.
Brown is preferred over black.
Brown animal prints are also nice.
COOL
Your best neutrals are black, navy and gray.
White is preferred over ivory.
Black is a yes.
Metallics and gray, black and white animal prints are fabulous as well.
