I wanted to make sure to have Kate’s newborn photos all in one place and some commentary while it’s still fresh in our minds. As I write this, she’s 3.5 weeks old and I’m so glad I’ve documented it so far because my pregnancy, her birth and her first week already feel like distant memories.
Kate’s newborn photos
If you’re just joining us, we have two sons ages 11 and eight and Kate’s arrival has been much anticipated. I’ve always wanted a daughter, I’m 39 and it took us four years to get pregnant this time so she is definitely our miracle baby.
To review…here’s how we announced our pregnancy news, a day after I took a cheap pregnancy test on a whim. January 9th, 2017.
This was my favorite shot from the gender reveal. All that pink! And one jubilant mama (that’s me in the middle, arms raised).
Four generations of GIRLS! My mom, grandmother and of course Kate and I. They were beyond thrilled.
I am surrounded by hundreds of amazing women in my life and some of them surrounded Kate and I with blessings and prayer at our Blessingway.
Kate and I were loved and prayed over long before we even got pregnant and several friends and family even lit candles for us while I was in labor. Her labor and birth were absolutely perfect and you can read about it here. That’s the backdrop to these photos.
My dear friend Alicia of Beba Photography who took my maternity photos also took these. She was our only visitor at the hospital other than my parents and the boys and I’m so glad she captured Drew, Kate and I in those precious hours after Kate’s birth! It was about 7:00pm, six hours after she was born, when just Drew and I remained in the recovery room.
I didn’t expect to have photos within the first 24 hours and they are beyond special to me. We were absolutely elated and fell in love with Kate immediately so having these moments captured is truly extraordinary and we can’t thank Alicia enough.

We went home at about 4:00pm the next day.
These are Kate’s five days old newborn photos
Taken at our house the Sunday after she came home.
We got a few smiles right away!
Then she perked right up, as you can see.
I love these from her nursery nook!
Then we headed to the back yard.
We got a few with Nana, too!
Then we moved to the front yard while the light was good!
